I suppose you could say I joined the campaign the other day when I sent this note in through the comments page:

To Barack,

Be the First Presidential Candidate/President to say “May God Bless This Earth, May God Bless America, and May God Bless All Of You.”

It has bugged me for quite some time hearing only, God Bless America. I am not even particularly religious. I was born and raised right here in Chicago. I think the world will hear IT.

Paul

I suppose I’ll start my “Blog for Obama” with the blessing in the title of this post, even if it is born out of the frustration of hearing what seems to have become a part of the obligatory patriotic rhetoric of politicians. It seems to me that just saying “God Bless America” in this day and age is almost narrow minded, though some would claim it as just a gift of being simple. There is nothing simple about this world, because people are involved. It’s not that complicated either. Harm None, Treat your neighbor as your self; we conserve good old time messages like those. Fine go ahead and call me too liberal with my blessings. Does the world really need our blessings too? There are some traditions that go even more liberal, blessing the entire cosmos first before giving local blessings; yea, that is pretty radical.

Outside of the rhetoric I would ask as plainly as the question was once put to me: Is Peace just the aftermath of a war?
